The media impression of health and safety is often one of derision, bemoaning a compensation culture laden with bureaucracy. The cost, however, both human and financial, of failing to address health and safety in the workplace is very real. Over 200 people are killed at work in the UK each year, occupational ill health and injury means over 30 million working days are lost, imposing an annual cost on society of some £30bn. The need to manage risk then is clearly vital, but many organisations are being overburdened by health and safety legislation and red tape. The Löfstedt Review set out to strike a new balance in this risk-adverse culture and drive a more proportionate, evidence-based approach to safety and health assurance.

The Löfstedt Review's proposals for change will have a major impact in how health and safety is implemented and managed going forward. Will the recommendations result in improved compliance, ensure better, simplified guidance and help to tackle serious health and safety risks in the workplace? Find out by joining us at Health and Safety Reform: Reducing the Burden of Red Tape, where leading experts will be discussing the changing health and safety landscape and what impact this will have on working environments.
