The Operational Efficiency Conference

OVERVIEW

This is the second of two conferences devoted to elements of the Operational Efficiency Programme. The first was Lean Government.

The Operational Efficiency Programme (OEP) was launched by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury on 3rd July 2008. The main report was published on 21st April 2009 and the more detailed strand reports were published in May 2009. The report identified the potential for efficiency improvements in the public sector amounting to £14.9bn cashable by 2013/14. These savings are in addition to those required in the CSR’07 period, but £5bn of the OEP identified savings have been brought forward into the CSR’07 period. The report recommended, and this was accepted by the government, that OEP savings should be presumed in the funding of public sector organisations from 2011/12 onwards.
