Sustainable Communities

OVERVIEW

On 7th November 2007, Public Service Events will host Sustainable Communities 07 – The future is local at the Barbican, London. The £38bn Communities Plan set out an ambitious and long term vision for creating prosperous and sustainable communities in all regions. Much has already been achieved, but there remains a long way to go towards realising the vision of modern, inclusive communities that integrate:

• Decent homes at prices people can afford;
• Efficient and reliable public transport;
• Schools;
• Hospitals;
• Shops;
• Clean, safe environments; and
• Green public spaces

Event supported by:

The plans are grand and far reaching, and the pressure is mounting to deliver on them. Serious concerns have been raised recently over the weaknesses in leadership, planning and co-ordination hindering the delivery of sustainable communities, and important questions need to be asked about the next steps in ensuring that the government’s delivery mechanisms can do their jobs effectively.

At the heart of successful delivery of sustainable communities is well-led, coordinated and focused work between the diverse parties with a stake in their success – local development agencies, community groups, local and central government, businesses and residents. To explore how this can be best achieved, our conference will bring together senior figures with key roles in the sustainable communities programme to debate how a unified approach to community regeneration is being achieved, and what more must be done to ensure that the sustainable communities envisaged on the pages of the Government’s reports become realities.

Are you involved with the Sustainable Communities agenda? Does your work connect with the delivery of the Government’s vision? Sustainable Communities 07 will be an important opportunity to make new connections and gain new insights into how best to deliver on the sustainable communities vision. If you would like to be a part of it, book today to secure your attendance!
