OVERVIEW

Britain’s roads are at the heart of the nation’s prosperity. As a consequence of this importance, the network is under unprecedented strain. Making changes to the way we use our roads is a necessary but controversial process.

The Traffic Management Act of 2004 set the agenda for the future of roads, underlining the critical importance of a planned approach to network management, from improvement works to traffic monitoring, to keep traffic moving smoothly within and between regions.
