According to Passenger Focus, passengers are ‘broadly happy with the quality of rail services’. This is good news, but there are still consistent calls for more trains, more seats, more punctual and reliable services, and greater value for money. Increasing rolling stock, introducing new signaling and ticketing solutions - all are ways to improve passenger experience.

Station improvement is another factor that has been identified as a way to raise customer satisfaction. Network Rail plans to invest £3.25bn between now and 2014 in the refurbishment of thousands of stations, including passenger information systems, lifts and stairways, longer platforms, lighting and CCTV. Chris Green, Station Champion and co-author of the Department for Transport’s ‘Better Rail Stations’ report, will speak at the event on the best ways to improve stations.
