OVERVIEW

The public sector will never be the same again. The June 2010 Budget revealed huge cuts in spending on top of those announced by the previous government and the £6.2bn outlined in May. For the deficit to be reduced, cuts and higher taxes will be necessary.

A step change in efficiency must play a major part. There are many ways this could be undertaken, including: the restructuring and streamlining of public service delivery and procurement, improving business processes, and making better use of IT and outsourcing.

There will undoubtedly be some extremely difficult management issues to overcome, for example, developing and implementing credible efficiency strategies, redeploying employees and reducing staff numbers. Organisations that have a detailed understanding of how they spend their money tend to perform best.

The Efficiency and Reform – Preparing for Change conference will discuss practical ways of delivering efficiencies and leave delegates with an up-to-date understanding of the issues and how the challenges facing the public sector can be addressed. This is a must event for all those in the public sector tasked with providing quality services at lower costs.
