Transport Planning for Major Sporting Events 09

OVERVIEW

Major sporting events attract hundreds of thousands of spectators from across the globe and can last between 12 and 16 days. This increase of visitors can push the existing transport infrastructure of a host city to breaking point, careful considered planning will minimise the impact on the existing infrastructure.

Successful Transport Planning is an essential part of staging any major sporting event. Effective transport plans should be sustainable and should aim to minimise environmental impacts wherever possible.

Good transport plans will ensure a lasting legacy for the local community with an increase in the transport network which will be of benefit for many years after the sporting event has taken place.
