Trevor Payne, Director of Facilities, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation

Trevor Payne has recently taken up the post of Director Facilities at University College Hospitals London NHS Foundation Trust (at £422M currently the largest operational PFI hospital development in the NHS) - phase 1 opened in June 2005 with phase 2 under construction and due to open in 2008) Up to August 2006 he held the post of Director of Estates & Facilities at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon UK for a period of three years - one of the first wave PFI (Private Finance Initiative) Hospitals & an award winning NHS flagship site. He was previously the Assistant Director of Operations (FM) at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals. He has a professional engineering background having trained in both Electrical and Plant Engineering, and subsequently took an MSc in Facilities Management at Centre for Facilities Management (CFM), Strathclyde Graduate Business School, graduating in 1998. He has 17 years experience in NHS estates Management.

He is a Fellow of IHEEM & a Fellow of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) and was awarded the BIFM Facilities Manager of the year award 2003 at a ceremony in London in Oct 2003 and was made a Fellow of the Institute following his presentation at the BIFM conference in Cambridge in March 2003.

He regularly presents papers Nationally & Internationally at seminars and conferences on matters relating to Facilities Management and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Facilities Management ( www.irseclipse.co.uk). His first book "Facilities Management – A Strategy for Success" was published in May 2000 (ISBN: 1 90237535 1). He has also contributed chapters to "Managing Business Support Services" (an IOD publication) & "Managing Risk in Healthcare"– which was published in June 2004. Trevor has been invited to present at a number of conferences during 2006 on managing operational PFI hospitals and topics relating to developing an effective contract partnership and the informed client role.
