“How Can Infrastructure Best Meet the Needs of the Economy?”
Better infrastructure drives competitiveness and supports economic growth by reducing business cost and increasing productivity. The UK must ensure that its infrastructure meets the needs of business. How can Government best support the planning, investment and delivery of our economic infrastructure - the networks in energy, transport, digital communication, flood protection, water and waste management - on which business and individuals depend?

“Protecting the UK's Infrastructure”
Parts of the UK's infrastructure are ageing and becoming outdated. Added to this is increasing demand in levels of usage of existing networks, and, as the population grows, expectations are rising in tandem. Consumers desire faster broadband connections, quicker and more reliable public transport and long term energy security. How can we integrate investment programmes, ensure value for money and strike a balance between these competing demands? With decision making shifting closer to the local level this will make the relationships between local government and the private sector increasingly important. How will the Local Enterprise Partnerships, Enterprise Zones and Tax Increment Finance schemes work in practice? How can Government encourage investment in infrastructure?
