Trewin Restorick, CEO, Global Action Plan

Trewin Restorick is the Director of Global Action Plan, a charity that he founded in
1993. The charity now employs 50 staff and runs a wide range of practical
sustainable development initiatives with companies, schools and community
organisations. Global Action Plan has won a range of awards including the Third
Sector Award for its communication campaigns on Climate Change and runner up in
the international Alcan Sustainability Award.
Trewin is the Chair of the DEFRA Compact Group which is building better
relationships between DEFRA and the voluntary sector. He is Chair of the
Environmental IT Leadership Team, is a trustee for the Centre for Environmental
education and was recently trained as one of Al Gore’s UK Climate Change
Ambassadors. Trewin is a frequent media commentator on environmental issues
appearing on Channel 4 News, BBC Breakfast, national radio and CNN.
Before starting Global Action Plan, Trewin worked for Friends of the Earth where he
was both the Recycling Co-ordinator and Head of Marketing. In these roles he
established the first blue box kerbside recycling scheme in the UK as part of the
Recycling City Initiative and also created Paper Round an office based recycling
scheme in London which now has a turnover of £3 million. Dubiously he was also
responsible for creating the Recycled Joke Book as part of the BBC 1 Challenge
Anneka series.
Previously he worked for Plymouth City Council (where he was involved in
establishing a number of community enterprises), the Dartington Trust and at the
tender age of 17 he produced a series of ‘youth programmes’ for BBC2 called
‘Something Else’.
Trewin lives in London and has two children. Giselle aged 14 and Callum aged 11.
Hobbies include writing, cooking, reading and playing tennis, squash and football. |

EcoTeams takes a holistic view of sustainability. It encourages households to address the issues of waste and energy, transport, shopping and wider community action. It provides a process for collecting before and after data that measure actual behaviour change rather than just increased awareness.

Jonathan Tillson, Head of Defra's SD Unit

Jonathan Tillson has worked for most of his career in what is now Defra, dealing mainly with environmental protection. Before taking up his present post in June 2006 he spent four years at the Government Office for London.
SDU is responsible for:
• the UK's Sustainable Development Strategy and oversight of its domestic implementation;
• sponsorship of the Sustainable Development Commission;
• embedding sustainable development across Government and within Defra, including through sustainable procurement and operations;
• the international Sustainable Development Dialogues (with China, India, South Africa, Mexico and Brazil); and
• helping achieve sustainable communities, in particular through Defra's interests in the land use planning system, housing supply, sustainable buildings and construction, strategic transport issues and the 2012 Olympics.
Jonathan is married, with a young daughter, and lives in East Dulwich.

Candice Stevens, OECD Sustainable Development Advisor

Candice Stevens is the Sustainable Development Advisor of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) based in Paris. She coordinates OECD work on economic, environmental and social issues, including studies of sustainable production, sustainable consumption, corporate responsibility, education for sustainable development, statistics and assessment methodologies for sustainable development, and National Sustainable Development Strategies (NSDS) and governance issues.
Dr. Stevens has been with the OECD for 23 years, working in the Environment Directorate on trade and environment issues and as Head of the Industry Division and of the Science and Technology Policy Division. Previously, she worked for the United States Government in the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of the Interior, the Department of Commerce, and Congressional Office of Technology Assessment.
