| Exercise to test emergency response |
|
Staff at the State Veterinary Service's Lincoln office will tomorrow take part in an exercise to test the setting up of a Local Disease Control Centre in the event of a suspected exotic animal disease outbreak in the area.
Divisional Veterinary Manager, Sarah Gordon, said: "This exercise will help us to improve the way we work with stakeholders and operational partners, including the farming community, local authorities, local vets, the emergency services, the media and the wider community in the event of an outbreak of an exotic animal disease being identified in the region."
The scenario will involve an outbreak of classical swine fever at fictitious pig premises in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The exercise is not in response to any specific threat, but part of routine training and exercising carried out by Defra to ensure the country's preparedness in dealing with outbreaks of notifiable diseases. |
