Senior NHS managers, both clinical and non-clinical, should be using the trainee voice as a significant patient safety tool and clinical improvement opportunity. This talk will include education quality management, and the trainee voice in postgraduate medical education, as a perspective on the Robert Francis Inquiry.

Rising demand and falling revenues are putting unprecedented pressure on quality and safety in the NHS. Following the announcement that publication of the final report of the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Inquiry has been delayed until January 2013, there is concern in some quarters that the NHS is risking another such scandal. This high-level panel will embrace the timely opportunity to discuss how the health service can ensure quality of care, considering the role of regulation and the importance of treating patients with dignity and respect.
