Ensuring communications operability and interoperability in disaster zones

When disaster strikes, emergency first responders need an immediate and effective way to restore essential communications, so that rescue efforts can start within minutes of arriving at the disaster area and continue unimpeded, regardless of the state of terrestrial networks. Inmarsat's BGAN service provides both voice and broadband data via a single device, completely independent of terrestrial fixed and cellular telephone networks.

Off-site leadership
It enables individual responders with different devices to communicate with each other, their command post and off-site leadership from the first moment they enter the disaster zone, ensuring they are immediately integrated with the rest of the rescue operation.

Latest situation
BGAN also enables you to establish a fixed or vehicular mobile command post, supporting multiple users from a single BGAN device via a WLAN.

First responders can send video footage of the disaster scene, access off-site data and make phone calls at the same time - making sure all parties are informed of the latest situation, thereby optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency response.

BGAN terminals are easy to use and at about the size of a laptop, ideal for rapid deployment.
